BRAND / DESIGNER PROFILE
Founded by Hiroyuki Horihata and Makiko Sekiguchi, matohu seeks to “create new clothing that has a subtle connection with Japanese aesthetics.” Horihata and Sekiguchi studied Apparel Design at Bunka Fashion College, and cut their teeth as pattern makers for COMME des GARÇONS and Yohji Yamamoto, respectively. The duo launched matohu in 2005 and presented their first collection at Tokyo Fashion Week in 2006. Their diverse purview as designers extends beyond the runway to include art museum exhibitions and documentary films.
