ATTACHMENT

Review

ATTACHMENT consistently reinterprets classic wardrobes with a modern edge, yet never loses sight of an all-encompassing, even stoically aesthetic sense. Designed with a meticulous attention to material and silhouette, the brand’s collections are imbued with a level of craftsmanship bordering on the obsessive compulsive. While their garments may appear simple at first glance, the devil is in the details.

Those seeking dramatic surprises from season to season may be disappointed. Instead, what ATTACHMENT delivers is dependable consistency, unswayed by mercurial trends. Maintaining a brand with such conceptual felicity is assuredly no simple feat.

The A/W 2023 collection marked the third season presented under the helm of designer Koki Enomoto, who has brought a slightly softer, more nuanced touch to the solid-forward palette set by his predecessor, brand founder Kazuyuki Kumagai. Inspired by Air Burial, a series of outdoor cast-glass works by American contemporary artist Roni Horn, the collection explores the distance between nature and humankind, as seen in myriad fabrics blending synthetic and natural fibers with a gentle, natural drape and herringbones echoing woodgrain. While retaining the brand’s signature masculine details, such as zippers and belts, this season’s collection refreshingly went beyond facile forms and colors/patterns, paring down extraneous elements to showcase the sublimely subtle minimalism of their designs. Overall, the collection evoked a mature elegance, radiating intellect and allure.

Similar to last season, this season’s collection shared the runway with Enomoto’s own label, VEIN. Titled “New Normal,” the show deftly grappled with themes ranging from gender to sustainability. At once a window into Enomoto’s sensitivity as a designer with a finger on the pulse of the zeitgeist, the show was also a testament to the sincerity of his commitment to “mens”wear, and a promising harbinger of ATTACHMENT’s continued evolution under new stewardship in the brave new world to come.
