HATRA
Review
HATRA is one of those rare brands that emerged from the ether fully formed. Exemplifying the ethos of quality over quantity, their collections consist of a tidy number of pieces executed with a delicate balance of technical precision and refreshingly original design. A clear outlier amid the sea of superficial Tokyo brands, HATRA’s collections are informed by a philosophical bent that has perhaps been misunderstood at times. Nonetheless, designer Keisuke Nagami remains singularly focused on the pursuit of his own unique aesthetic, without pandering to the common popular denominator.
As a relative newcomer in the constellation of Tokyo fashion, KANAKO SAKAI’s ascent may seem rather meteoric. However, the brand’s promise as a new aesthetic voice was already evident from the inaugural S/S 2022 collection, which radiated elegance and intellect in its twist on standard silhouettes and unexpected color combinations. This season’s show was no exception. Executed with confidence and style, perhaps one could be forgiven for double-checking their notes to confirm that this was indeed the brand’s runway debut.
